Who are you? I’m Kat. My laugh is loud and I cry at adverts. I love travelling, mountains and food (not so keen on the cooking part). And I hope to someday be an “avid cyclist”.
What’s your role? I’m Head of PR – Consumer. I’m here to evolve our approach to PR as new consumer trends emerge, and to help ensure our work makes the biggest and best impact possible for our fabulous clients.
So what do you actually spend your day doing? On any given day I could be hunting out walls for a graffiti campaign, reviewing a press release about why thrush cream isn’t the best treatment for dandruff, or taste testing Meridian’s latest nut butter samples. I work closely with my wonderful team to create killer media strategies and press angles. No two days are the same and I love it.
Greatest strength? Finishing things. I see everything through to the end and never give up.
Biggest weakness? A well structured restaurant menu. Getting distracted by things that don’t matter. Subscribing to every magazine on the planet.
What’s your favourite example of brand activism? Is it wrong to choose a campaign I worked on? I’m gonna have to… UNILAD’s #BloodWithoutBias campaign. UNILAD launched an Illegal Blood Bank for gay and bisexual men, in protest against policies which prevented men who have sex with men from donating blood unless they abstained from sex for three months. We got BBC and ITV primetime news talking about the issue and in December 2020, the UK Government changed the policy. It took a village to launch the campaign, and a huge shout out is always due to FreedomToDonate, ELVIS and Hotwire for coming together to make this happen.
